HOW DO I ARRANGE A PROPER PLACE SETTING IN THE DINING ROOM?

There are two place settings at the two ends of the table, and a card showing the correct arrangement. One of the settings is already correct.

--

Apparently these are not really designed to eat with – rather, they're connected to some mechanism.

--

Touching a piece of cutlery just rotates the big wheel it's attached to, swapping it for a different piece of cutlery.

--

Try to arrange both ends of the table to match the card.

--

You'll notice that once you get one of them correct, the one at the other end of the table changes. Very annoying.

--

There is some logic to it, though.

--

When you move the last piece of cutlery on your end, the corresponding piece of cutlery on the other end moves by one.

--

Arrange one set to be almost correct, but take care to set one piece of cutlery to the one before the correct one.

--

Then arrange the other end to be correct, moving the corresponding place of the deliberately wrong one on the other end last, and watch the other set also fix itself. Success!

--

Example solution:

On the end with the card, change the last piece of cutlery to a fish knife. Now on the other end of the table, set everything correctly, leaving the last piece on the right for last.

--

A sword-shaped inlay recedes in the middle of the table. Almost as if you should place something in it.

--

If you don't already have a sword, you might want to convince a knight to give you his.

--

Place the sword in the inlay. Then go downstairs to see what changed.

--

The staff dining room downstairs is a good place to look.

--

There's now a new door next to the shelves.
